FUTURE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS FRAMEWORK [Dates] [Format] [Courses] [Schedule] [Measurement] [Social]

Issued from the 2001, 2002, 2003, 2006, 2008 Paris December World Council minutes.

The need of World Championship Framework has been expressed by many WC members, in order to precise the part F (Racing Rules of Formula 18 events) of the Class Rules.

A general agreement has been met on the following :

bulletDates :
bullet The second week of July (when in Europe).

bulletEvent format :
bullet 2 registration and measurement checking days, including a practice race on the 2nd day ;
bullet No spare day, in order to facilitate accommodation and travel arrangements ;
bullet A maximum of 160 entries ;
bulletOver 80 entries, competitors will be split into four qualification groups equally levelled by a seeding committee ;
bullet There will be a minimum of 6 qualification races, with one first discardable result from the 4th sailed qualification race ;
bullet Then the fleet to be split in two equal parts, according to the provisional qualification ranking : the first half, rounded up, compromising the Gold fleet, and the second half compromising the Silver fleet ;
bullet The qualification races (excluding one discard) will be counted to compute the overall ranking in each of the Gold and Silver fleets ;
bullet Then there will be a maximum of 3 final racing days ;
bullet There will be a maximum of 4 sailed races per final day ;
bullet 3 sailed races are needed to validate the championship ;
bulletA second discard will be granted after 4 final races have been completed ;
bulletA maximum of 15 races are scheduled for the duration of the whole Championship.

bulletCourse format :
bulleta maximum of 2 long distance races (10 or more planned nautical mille), to be sailed on the very same day ;
bulletwindward/leeward courses ;
bullet offset mark (minimum 70° to the wind direction) to be rounded after the windward mark ;
bulletgate at the leeward mark ;
bullet2 or 3 rounds, target time for the first boat to finish : 60 minutes. Longer or shorter actual duration for a race will not be ground for redress.

bulletday 7 :            windward/leeward qualification or final races, prize giving

bulletMeasurement issues :
bullet In order to prevent any dispute, no fundamental measurement has to be done on the spot.
bulletAll competitors are requested to present valid measurement certificates established prior to the very first day of registration.
bulletMandatory measurement checking :
bulletcomplete weight of the boat ready to sail ;
bulletcrew weight.
bulletThe equipment used during the championship shall be marked by the organizer.

bulletEntry fee – social events :
bulletThe entry fee, including a minima the welcoming ceremony, one sailors dinner and the prize giving ceremony, shall not exceed 250 euros.
