 PURPOSEprinciplesformularegattasrolesranking listawardscalendar

The European Sailing Federation (EUROSAF) established the European Ranking List (ERL) in 2004. ERL is opened for all non-Olympic classes, whose sailors are sailing on lakes, sees and oceans of/around Europe.

The purpose of ERL is to afford a continental-wide ranking from amateur to top-performer sailors. The ranking list is published on Internet and winners of ERL receive award at the yearly closing ceremony.

ERL is managed under the rules defined below.

PRINCIPLESback to page top

This principles determine the expectations for a valid ERL regatta:

1.     ERL Class: at least 10 boats competes in 4 countries
2.
     Existing international Class organization
3.
     Helmsman/crew to be separately ranked
4.
6 qualification regattas or more a year; venues at equable geographical distribution
5.
Event grades proposed by Class & MNA, before effect needs EUROSAF approval
6.
Criteria for qualification regatta: at least 2 nations attendance
7.
Expected number of boats 11 or more, ERL score being sensible for boats started
8.
Two or more valid races (according to Rules); eleven or more boats started in each
9.
The 3 best ERL valued results make base of the ranking

HIGHER ORDER RULINGback to page top

ERL is based on regular regattas organized under ISAF and other rules. The overall ranking uses the final result list of the Class of the regatta in concern. No ERL rule overrides any valid regulation in the usual organization system.

OTHER RULESback to page top

Sailors intending to participate in ERL don't need to submit a formal entry. No entry fee is to be payed. However -for organization purposes- the sailor's registration at the ISAF Sailor website is expected.

RANKING FORMULAback to page top

The sailor's earned ranking score for the European Ranking List will be determined upon the regatta final place achieved by her/him

REGATTASback to page top

ERL 2006 requires 6-12 regattas a year, that will make the base of the ERL competition. These regattas may be attended by the sailors to earn ranking scores. For the Formula 18 Class, ERL is built on the 3 best ranking scores earned.

Choosing proper regattas is the Class's competency. The Class must select the regattas to keep an eye on the principle the chosen regattas be in equal geographical distribution, so the sailors enjoy approximately equal chances in having a set of regattas to choose from.

ROLES in the CLASS CHALLENGED FOR ERLback to page top

If the Class is sailed by two or a team of sailors, it is up to the Class's decision, which racing roles added to 'helmsmen' are challenged in ERL. Excluded 'helmsmen' it is an option, not a must to enter any other role (e.g. crew).

RANKING LISTback to page top

The ranking List in the Class entered and for the challenged roles is published on this very website and on the EUROSAF Internet website www.eurosaf.org. The results are available in a continuous service, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

AWARDSback to page top

1st place winners for each challenged roles of the European Ranking List receive medals.

Award Ceremony is planned to be held at the last ERL event. A member of the EUROSAF Board will visit that regatta and hand over the awards.

YEAR 2006 SPECIFIC CONTROLSback to page top

  1. All deadline restrictions specified above are sliding. In respect of the pilot year they are to be applied with proper care and with respect to the interest of the parties.
  2. The sailor registration at the EUROSAF ERL website is not applied for the 2005 edition of ERL.
  3. Each selected ERL regatta be assigned with a Class Officer. (S)he should be a sailor attending the regatta. His/her responsibility is to receive the final result list of the Class and submit it to the ERL Coordinator at EUROSAF. Race Office will be aware of which classes are racing for ERL qualification too at that regatta and will provide the final result lists for the assigned person.
Publication of the upgraded results following a regatta is due within three days after closing of that regatta.
